Design Story

The composition is strictly symmetrical. Two hooded stone figures stand mirrored against carved walls, crimson drapes fall on either side, and two skulls anchor the lower corners like finials. Between them the eye is pulled along a corridor of candle flames toward a single arched window, where pale light gathers and returns as a broken reflection on still water. Warm amber points sit against a near-monochrome field of wet grey stone, and the scattered red leaves echo the drapery without competing with it. Depth is the real subject here: the descending steps in the foreground carry the perspective outward toward the viewer, so the flat surface reads as an opening.
